Notification Types

  • Push Notifications can be sent for both mobile and desktop if you’ve enabled them on the device.

  • Email Notifications will be sent if all push notifications are disabled. When push notifications are enabled for either desktop or mobile, we automatically disable email notifications to prevent duplicates.

  • Badges will appear in Glue to let you know of new messages. A red badge will show if you or a group are directly @ mentioned. A grey badge will show for all other messages.

Enable notifications on your device

If you want to receive push notifications on your device, you will need to enable the notifications per device. The easiest way to do this is by turning on notifications when you first download the Glue apps, but you can check your notification settings at any time in the preferences menu.

During Account Setup

When you first download the app and log in, a pop-up will prompt you to enable notifications. For the best experience, we highly recommend setting up notifications at this point.

Press the "continue" button on the turn on notifications pop up. Make sure to select allow on any system pop ups that come up on your device to grant Glue permission to send notifications on your device.

After Account Setup

Manage notification preferences in Glue

For more granular notification settings, navigate to Preferences under your profile avatar. Here you can control which messages you get notifications for, and check if your push notifications are enabled.

Inbox notifications

This controls which messages you will get push notifications for. This preference will apply across all of your Glue apps (and email if you do not have push notifications enabled).

Default: All Inbox Messages

  • By default, you will get push notifications for all Inbox messages.

  • New threads created or chats sent in Groups you belong to will send a push notification.

  • DMs will send a push notification.

Mentions, Replies, & Direct Messages Only

  • You’ll only receive push notifications for messages where you are directly @mentioned, sent a direct message, or a message you sent is quote replied.

  • With this notification setting, you will not get a push notification on every thread in your inbox, even if you choose to follow the thread. You will only get a push notification unless you or a group you are in get directly @ mentioned.

Nothing

  • Choosing this option means you won’t receive push or email notifications for new messages or Threads in your Inbox.

  • Exceptions: You’ll still be notified of invitations or requests to join a workspace, group, or thread, as well as any invites from individuals outside your workspace.

Notification Sounds

Customize which push notifications will play a sound. The sound itself is managed by your device and cannot currently be customized. Make sure your device's system settings for notifications allow Glue or your Browser to play sounds.

Default: All Notifications

Every message you get a push notification for plays a sound.

Mentions, Replies, & Direct Messages Only

Only mentions, replies (threads created from one of your messages) and DMs will play a sound, even if you get push notifications for everything in your Inbox.

Don't play any sounds

No notification sounds will play, even if you get push notifications.

Note: If you change your notifications preferences from All Inbox to Mentions, Replies, And DMs or None, your sound preferences will automatically adjust with it.

Push notifications (this device)

Check if notifications have been successfully enabled on your device from your Preferences menu. You will see different prompts in this section based on your device's system settings, with relevant instructions based on what action you need to take next.

✅ Notifications are successfully enabled for your device

🔔 You can send yourself a test notification to see how a notification displays and confirm it's working.

🚫 Notifications are not enabled for your device

You will see one of the following two prompts if notifications are not enabled.

  1. Turn on notifications — This means notifications have never been enabled, and you need to allow Glue to send notifications to your device. Once that connection is established between your device and Glue, notifications can be be enabled and disabled based on your preferences in Glue or your device's system settings.

  • Press the "Turn on notifications" button

  • When your device asks for permission via a system prompt pop up, choose Allow

Surprised to see that notifications have not been enabled? It's possible you missed the system prompt the first time around. Make sure to select allow on the system prompt after pressing "turn on notifications" (the prompt will look different depending on the device type).

  1. To get notifications from Glue, you'll need to turn them on in your System Settings — This means that Glue is allowed to send notifications to your device, but notifications are currently disabled in your device's system settings. You cannot re-enable notifications from Glue in this scenario, you have to go into your device's notification settings.

  • Go to your device’s Settings > Notifications > Glue

  • Make sure notifications are turned on
