Notification Troubleshooting

Something not working as expected with notifications? Check out some troubleshooting tips below.

Not receiving notifications

Troubleshooting steps

Check that notifications are enabled in Glue

The first troubleshooting step across devices is to check your notification preferences in Glue.

  1. Navigate to your preferences menu and make sure notifications are enabled. This is per device, so even if you have them enabled on one device, they might not be enabled on another.

  2. If notifications have not been enabled for your device, follow the prompts to turn them on.

  3. If notifications are disabled for your device, you will need to go into your device settings to turn them back on.

  4. If notifications are enabled, press the "send test notification" button to see if a notification comes through.

  5. Double check what you have inbox notifications set to — unless you have push notifications set to "All inbox messages" you will not receive push notifications for every message.

If your notifications are enabled, press the "send test notification" button for testing

Check that your device is not in a "do not disturb" mode

Make sure your device's do not disturb or focus mode are turned off - the name of this setting will be dependent on your device type.

  • Macs - make sure Do Not Disturb or Focus settings are off.

  • Windows - make sure Focus Assist and Quiet Hours are off.

Note for Apple Users: If you are signed into your Mac and iPhone with the same Apple ID, both devices will enter Do Not Disturb mode if you enable the setting on one of the devices.

Check additional settings based on your device type

Update your macOS notification preferences

  1. Open your computer's System Preferences, then click Notifications.

  2. Select Glue from the list.

  3. Make sure the Allow Notifications from Glue toggle is on and your alert style is set to either Banners or Alerts.

  4. If you do not see Glue as an app in your Notifications settings, try deleting the Glue app and reinstalling it.

Check your macOS Do Not Disturb settings

  1. Click the toggles icon in the top right corner of your screen to open the Mac Notification Center.

  2. Click Do Not Disturb and make sure it’s toggled off.

No notification sounds

Check your notification sound preferences in Glue, check your device's notification settings and send yourself a test notification!

Check if sounds are enabled

  1. Open your computer's System Preferences.

  2. Select Notifications.

  3. Find Glue in the list and make sure Play sound for notifications is enabled.

  4. If using a browser, find the browser in the list and sure Play sound for notifications is enabled.

Check your audio output settings

  1. Open your computer's System Preferences.

  2. Select Sound, then click Sound Effects.

  3. Next to Play sound effects through, check to see if the correct device is selected, then make sure your alert volume is turned up.

  4. Make sure the box next to Play user interface sound effects is checked.

Send a test notification

  1. Click your profile picture in the upper righthand corner.

  2. Select Preferences from the menu.

  3. Scroll to Push notifications (this device) and click the "Send test notification" button.

Note: If you are using an external monitor, try disconnecting your monitor and then running the test notification to see if the problem persists.

Still having issues?

If you try our troubleshooting and still have issues, you can reach out for support. Please specify what exactly isn't working in your message — is it not seeing notifications, not hearing the sound, or something else? What were you expecting to happen, and what actually happened? The more detail the better! If you're able to send screenshots or screen recordings too that helps.
