Public threads launch
We've launched Public Threads — a new way to share information across your workspace without everyone needing to join every group. Here's everything you need to know.
How it works
Previously, all threads were private to the members on the thread (people and groups). Now, you can make any thread publicly visible to everyone in your workspace. Public threads are visible in the new threads feed.
This means your team can stay informed on what's happening across the organization without being added to every group — and group membership can go back to meaning something: the people who actually need every thread in their inbox.

A few things to know:
New threads default to public (workspace-visible), but you can toggle them to private while drafting.
The threads feed lets you see all the threads in your inbox plus all public threads in your workspace. You can filter by group and change your view layout.
Groups now work best as distribution lists: members should be people who want every group thread in their inbox. Everyone else can follow along in the threads feed. Newly created groups will default to adding every thread to a group member’s inbox.
Existing threads and groups are not affected automatically. All of your existing threads remain private — that's why you'll notice a lock icon on threads in your inbox now. You can edit the public/private visibility in thread details. Your groups will retain their group notification settings.
What's changed in your inbox
The top section of your inbox has been simplified. You'll now see:
A threads feed showing all public threads across your workspace that can be filtered by group.
A lock icon on any thread that's still private. Public threads will show the standard thread icon.
A consolidated Directory view for people, groups and apps

Recommended actions to see the benefit
Here are two things worth doing to make the most of Public Threads:
1. Make key threads public
Thread owners and admins can change a thread's visibility at any time.
To make a thread public to your workspace:
Open the thread
Go to Thread details (either by clicking on the thread name or the ellipsis)
Under Visibility, switch from Private to Public

2. Clean up group membership
If someone doesn't need every thread from a group in their inbox, they don't need to be a member anymore — they'll still see public threads in the feed.
To remove members from a group:
Open the group — either from the new directory or group chat
Open group details — click on the group details button from the directory or click on the name of the group from the chat
Go to Members
Remove anyone who doesn't need all group threads in their inbox

FAQ
Will my existing threads automatically become public? No. All existing threads stay private unless you manually change them. You're in control.
What does the lock icon on my thread mean? It means a thread is private — only thread recipients can see it. You'll now see this on all your existing threads until you start making threads public.
Can I make a thread private after it's been public? Yes. Thread owners and admins can toggle visibility in thread settings at any time.
What happens to my group notification settings? Your existing groups will keep their current group notification settings (the default used to be "important only"). New groups will default to "everything" for notifications — all threads will be added to your inbox.
