Introduction to Messaging in Glue
Messaging in Glue is very flexible. A message can be sent as a chat to one Group (Group Chat) or to one Person (DM), or a message can be sent in a Thread to multiple Groups and People at the same time. Threads organize the back and forth messages about a specific topic, and Groups and People can be added or removed as the conversation evolves. Any individual message (whether sent as a Group Chat, DM, or in a Thread) can be used to create a new Thread at any time.

Adding and notifying people with mentions
@ Mentioning Users or Groups in Threads
What happens when you @ mention a user or group who is not already on the thread
When creating a new thread
The user or group will be automatically added to the recipient list in your thread, but you can always remove them before sending the thread.
The @ mention in the message body will alert anyone who is a recipient on the new thread and put the thread in their inbox.
When messaging an existing thread
You’ll see an option to add the user or group to the thread.
By default, they are not added—you must choose to add them.
If you do add them to the recipient list, once you send the message with the @ mention, they will be notified of the @ mention in their thread inbox.
If you don’t add them, their name will appear as a reference that others can click on.
@ Mentioning Users or Groups in Group Chats or DMs
When @ mentioning a user or group who is not in the Group or DM
The @ mention will only show up as a reference.
When @ mentioning the user you are DMing or the Group you are Group chatting
The @ mention will alert the user or Group by putting a red badge next to the chat in their inbox.
Mentioning Thread Names
You can @ mention a thread name in any message to reference relevant discussions.
This sends a formatted link to the thread directly in line with the rest of your message.
Note: Mentioning a thread does not send an alert to anyone.
